Session Five: Pulling it All Together

This session is to be completed online, and at home. Submissions (both a brief summary to the wiki blog and lesson plans) are due via email by 11:59 p.m.

Lesson Plan Criteria:

  • The format of the lesson should be designed to "fit" your teaching style - as long as it is detailed, makes sense, and can be a useable document for others, feel free to "lay out" your lesson in a way that works most comfortably for you...

  • Please include the following in your lesson:

  1. The writing purpose (opinion, informative or narrative)
  2. The intended grade level(s) that your lesson targets
  3. Please list the cross-curricular connections (example: LA/Math or LA/Science, etc.)
  4. Please list the common core standard(s) addressed, as well as content-related curricular indicator(s)
  5. The text mentor text you've selected, with a brief synopsis of the text (this will really help your colleagues quickly gauge whether or not the text will be suitable for their needs or if an alternate text will work best for their instructional purpose
  6. Please add your text to our Mentor Text Resources page
  7. List any specific strategy(ies) needed (note: if you question whether or not the strategy you are using is widely known by the group, please err on the side of caution, and take a moment to explain the strategy(ies)
  8. List your name as the author of the lesson...if you are comfortable with being contacted in the future by a classmate who might have a question when they attempt to teach your lesson, please provide your contact email address on the top left-hand side of document
  9. Please provide any specialized documents needed for the lesson (example: if you are using a framework or scaffold to help students organize their thoughts, please include)
  10. Please list all materials needed for the lesson and any special preparation necessary
  11. Please provide differentiation for a range of writers (above, on, and below)
  12. Please email your lesson to EVERYONE, (including me)...email addresses are on your syllabus...if you've misplaced it, you can access it on our home page....if you are feeling ambitious, you could also post your lesson onto our Writing Resources page

Good luck! Just a friendly reminder to be clear and concise - remember, others will be utilizing your lesson, so clarity is key....you will appreciate this so much when you try to implement someone else's lesson in the fall :)

Okay, twelve steps to the start of a resource library for the upcoming school year.....if you have any questions, please contact me - I'm more than happy to help!
